Making Telehealth (Online) Therapy Successful for You!

Lots of research conducted during and after the COVID pandemic demonstrate that telehealth therapy (therapy provided by video/audio means) is just as effective as in-person therapy. How can you get the most benefit from telehealth therapy? I have added some tips to help!

Find a quiet place in your house. If you do not have a quiet space, this can be the

first action that you take in helping yourself. Create a space that is quiet and that is relaxing for you.

Use one space and stick to it! Research shows that we remember information best when we are in the same place where we learned that information. Throughout the week, return to your therapy space to do exercises for therapy, or simply to meditate.

Bring the essentials. Bring a notepad and pen, a box of tissues, and any items you take comfort from. Keep your therapy spot set up for therapy, so that you can write things down in your notes that you would like to discuss, and also record your wins for the week!

Be sure that your therapy spot has great internet connection. Consider purchasing a wifi extender if your chosen space does not have great reception. Most big box stores carry these.

Contain that negativity. At the end of difficult sessions, we may have to symbolically put negative emotions or experiences in a "container" until we revisit them and process out the negativity, Think of some sort of container that you could use--it can be very small. We are symbolically "offloading" that material until we can deal with effectively.

Bring symbols of healing. We want you to grow and heal, so bring symbols that represent that! Maybe put a plant nearby, or have photos that inspire you.

I hope these tips will help you have great success in therapy!

All good things,
